Hearing test

Post by mistikalvalkrie »

This was posted on another forum I frequent: http://www.ultrasonic-ringtones.com/

Its kind of a quick fun little ultrasonic hearing test online, but make sure you turn up your speakers before you start.

I got up to 17.7 kHz: typical teenager...which is kind of funny because I'm 26 and think I might be starting to lose my hearing.

You are a dog
Or maybe you are a mosquito, you certainly can't be human.

The highest pitched ultrasonic mosquito ringtone that I can hear is 21.1kHz

confirms my suspicious that I don't really have much hearing loss. Just some tinnitus.

I could actually hear 21.1 and the one before that a little better than the ones before that.

I'm 26 by the way.
Stand back, I like to rock out.

I only got to 16.7. Eh... typical, older musician ears.

21.1K ... I think I might have been able to hear higher, but my cheapo earbuds couldn't reproduce it.
I've always had pretty good hearing, though I'm surprised it's not much worse, considering the hard rock background. I do like to brag that after Mama Corn shows, my ears never ring like the old days, folk music is very comfortable to listen to.
I was tested about 5 years ago, convinced that I had some hearing loss... the audiologist said that if I did have loss, I must have had superhuman hearing before that. I like that he said superhuman. Apparently, annoying people isn't my only super-power.--->JMS

21.1, which kind of surprises me considering the amount of noise these ears have absorbed over the years. Like Lemmy says..."LOUDER!"

I would say this is not accurate enough to say one way or another with any reliability. Far too much could interfere with the test before it even gets to your ears.

It is possible to have a dominant ear, like vision?
I used to have to be subjected to hearing tests once a year at former jobs and my left ear was always better than my right. In fact my right ear suffered minimal, but gradual loss at each testing.

I tried turning up the volume on the higher (> 16.7 kHz) ones but it just made me piss my pants and I started having flashbacks from the mental hospital. :P

Isn't 22.4k beyond the range of ANYONE's hearing? I'm 29. Been doing this for 15 years. I still heard the 21.1k.

And joe, yes, you can def. have a dominant ear. I've always stood to the left side of the stage facing the crowd (never understood Stage Left/Stage Right), and I've had crash cymbal in my right ear for years. Props to my new drummer Chris! He sets up his crash and ride backwards!
"well, why don't you make ten louder and just have that be the loudest one?"

".....but these go to eleven!"

Not very high, but I could here the E, which said dog or mosquito. I think the E is off kilter cause I could not hear the D or D#, but the E was very loud.

I got up to 16.7K (C), which says I'm about 20. Course I can cheat and say that I heard my speaker click for all of them too...

Those tones hurt my ears though... Will I be able to hear less when I'm older after being submitted to these things???

Wha'd he say?

I got to 21.1, which is good considering that I thought I was starting to lose some of my hearing. BTW, I'm 33.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.
