Unearth - The March

Post by bassist_25 »

I had a bit of a selfish moment while Christmas shopping the other day. I had wanted to pick this album up the day it was released, but the record store didn't have it. I put getting it on the backburner for a while, but I nabbed it when I saw it the other day.

Man, I've only listened to this record once, but it kills. The guitar work is excellent, and I still dig how real and intelligent their lyrics are. I really enjoyed III: In the Eyes of Fire, and The March seems to have picked up right where the band had left off. They trimmed a lot of the fat from their songs on this go around. I still dug the arrangements from III: In the Eyes of Fire, but they seem to cut to the chase more on this release. I love how the two guitarists work and write together in this band, and there's plenty of shredding throughout the tracks. I still think I prefer their old drummer, but their new one ain't too shabby either.

I know that Matt is a pretty big Unearth fan (as obvious by his username), so I'd be interested in hearing his thoughts about this release. Anyone else give this disc a spin yet? What are your thoughts? I know that the "metalcore" genre is getting pretty saturated right now by some good bands and some not-so-good bands. I think that these cats are definitely a cut above most of their peers.

I listen to XM/Sirrus or whatever the hell it is now every workday.Just yesterday i caught what i assumed was a new Unearth tune, and hell yeah it was frickin kick ass.Shredding licks, cool vocal melody, nice drum work out(i mean Jesus no chump could ever play this type of music)and above all it was very catchy. All this and i forgot the name. But i'm pretty damn sure i hadn't heard it before.Very nice.

I havent heard anything off it yet but I really enjoyed all the other ones. Unearth is a really talented band IMO and their live show is just as good. One of the best bands I saw at Ozzfest in 04..

I have to agree. The March is an awesome album. The guitar work in My Will Be Done is just crazy. From first song to last song its by far one of the most brutal albums of 2008. This is my favorite band, Uneart are the kings of the Breakdown.

What is a "breakdown"? Is it a half time riff?

This is easily my favorite disc from Unearth. Killer riffs and the production is really nice.

You know... It's that part in a bunch of early Seultura songs where everything stops and the guitar goes duh duh duh... d-duh duh duh... duh duh duh... d-duh duh duh... duh...
