whoa, so ... i recently decided that i wanted to form a band. ive been practicing my ass off for the last sixth months and things started to fall into place. well ... tonight was our first practice....this is gonna be rough! i give mad props to all the bands out there right now. i won't lie, i went into this thinking it was goin to be a piece of cake - not so much. don't get me wrong, im not expecting to make tons of money and im not bitchin cause i know we suck right now (im lucky i found people to play). i guess .. just wish us luck. ha we have a show booked for april.

and ... hahah hope that we can get through one song with out me or my lead singer saying "oh shit" half way through.

look for us!

Don't get frustrated when you play for chairs. It will happen. A lot. Advice: Give those chairs a show like they've never seen before, each and every time. Too many give up when there are only a handful of people in the room but this is the biggest mistake you can make. That handful of people came out to have a good time after a hard week at work and they paid to get in, they deserve your best.

Eventually, if you keep at it, there will be more and more bodies in those empty chairs.

If playing in a band was easy, more people would do it. It takes hard work like anything else. As stated before, you do the same show for two people as you do for 2,000 people because they are there to be entertained and will become fans. Never compromise on the performance. Always have fun and take the music and business seriously but never yourselves. We have all played on the Ethan Allen Tour playing to the furniture and still have gigs like that occasionally. It comes with the job.

Good Luck!

Some of us envy you, I'm sure. I'd love to relive the first rehearsal, the first gig, the first everything, even the bad stuff. I have a 1/4-century's time in onstage now, and while I know a lot more about what I'm doing, sometimes I wish I could forget it all, and learn it all again, because it's so fulfilling. I'd have that fire in my belly again, and The Big Dream to push me and my bandmates, and people would once again think I was rebellious and devil-may-care.
Not that it's all been for nothing. After all the work and time, a fair percentage of people just assume I know what I'm doing now, which may or may not be true at any given point, but it IS less frustrating. I also have a lifetime's worth of amazing things I got to see and do, for no other reason than I play music. That's more than worth it, even though I never became the rock star I assumed I would be. Once I got comfortable with that, I've taken paths that brought me to a different place than I ever thought I'd be. Instead of the preening metal frontman, I'm a journeyman digging around at the roots of American music, discovering how deep such simple music really is.
I wish you lots of luck... Felix is a pretty good guy to emulate, he's spent more time onstage than anyone else I know, and I know a LOT of musicians... he's taught me a lot. Best advice he ever gave me: "If you don't screw up at least once, you're not playing hard enough."
Play hard, screw up, have fun, and stay focused. It's a time you'll never forget.-------->JMS

I just have to echo everything that Johnny, Bobby, Douchez, and Duaine said. In the words of AC/DC: It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock 'n roll. Playing with other musicians is a whole other universe than playing with yourself (I mean that in a none perverted way). However, I think that it's a good idea to start jammin' with others once you get the basics of your instrument down, even if it's just an informal type of thing. I know a lot of players who have never performed in an ensemble situation. They often develop bad habits, such as horrible timing and an inability to follow a drummer. So just jamming with other people early in your development is a step in the right direction.

It's never going to be easy. As Duaine pointed out, if it were easy, there would be more people doing it. Even after playing bass for almost 14 years, I'm still not even close to being happy with my performance.

Remember...

Lord loves a working man....

Don't trust Whitey.....

But most important!!

If you catch something... see a doctor and get rid of it!!!!!

Or have Ron go get you some A200 so you don't itch all through practice.....

But don't give up just cause some groupie gave you cooties....
Shampoo those little suckers, use that little comb to comb them out, and get right back up on that horse....
(Hell, do that same chick the next week if it was all good, remember she probably had a friend get her some A200 too)

Oh like my band memories are so differant from all you others? hehe....

You guys are filling his head with all the non-important crap!!!

I don't know. I never did it. I'm a boy. Looks cool though.

Ok I'm done. This joke has gone too far. I apologize, and good luck with your band.

Where is your show in april?
