When I got married in April... we used Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World."
Nice song, but it made my mother cry.

When I DJ'ed weddings through the '90s, I used this selection as my "this-would-be-a-great-song-to-use-if-you-don't-have-something-else-in-mind" song for the mother-groom dance.

Most people would say, "That's perfect."

Either that one or "Mother" by Danzig.

This list of Mother & Son Wedding Dance songs was on a website specifically for that purpose.

P.S. I do not know if the last verse of Wonderful Tonight is suitable

It's time to go home now and I've got an aching head,
So I give her the car keys and she helps me to bed.
And then I tell her, as I turn out the light,
I say, "My darling, you were wonderful tonight.
Oh my darling, you were wonderful tonight."

Here is the list

Unforgettable - Nat King Cole & Natalie Cole
You'll be in My Heart - Phil Collins
Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler
A Song For Mama - Boyz II Men
Because You Loved Me - Celine Dion
I Wish You Love - Dean Martin
A Song for my Son on his Wedding Day - Mikki Viereck
There You'll Be - Faith Hill
What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong
In My Mother's Eyes - Willie Nelson
Through the Years - Kenny Rogers
Beautiful Boy - John Lennon
Just the Way You Are - Billy Joel
You've Got a Friend - James Taylor
I Hope You Dance - Leann Womack
Through the Years - Kenny Rogers
In My Life - The Beatles

Edit:

 Sometimes the most obvious choice is the hardest one to make. Definitely Trace, "Simple Man" fo' sho'! I had "I Hope You Dance" on my brain due to my sister and I hearing, singing along to and discussing it recently during a short roadtrip. My sis can have "I Hope You Dance" for her Godmother/Aunt dance with my son (if he ever does marry his girlfriend). :D

This one is probably NOT a good one:

"Mother" - Pink Floyd

Mother do you think they'll drop the bomb
Mother do you think they'll like the song
Mother do you think they'll try to break my balls
Ooooh aah, Mother should I build a wall
Mother should I run for president
Mother should I trust the government
Mother will they put me in the firing line
Ooooh aah, is it just a waste of time
Hush now baby, baby don't you cry
Mama's gonna make all of your
Nightmares come true
Mama's gonna put all of her fears into you
Mama's gonna keep you right here
Under her wing
she won't let you fly but she might let you sing
Mama will keep baby cosy and warm
Ooooh Babe Ooooh Babe Ooooh Babe
Of course Mama's gonna help build the wall

Mother do think she's good enough for me
Mother do think she's dangerous to me
Mother will she tear your little boy apart
Oooh aah, mother will she break my heart
Hush now baby, baby don't you cry
Mama's gonna check out all your girl friends for you
Mama won't let anyone dirty get through
Mama's gonna wait up till you get in
Mama will always find out where
You've been
Mamma's gonna keep baby healthy and clean
Ooooh Babe Ooooh Babe Ooooh Babe
You'll always be a baby to me
Mother, did it need to be so high.

Deb

I always loved Skynyrd's song "Simple Man" because it's the mother talking to her son about how to live his life the best he can. And it's a classic. I love it when my brother Paul Parrish sings it. (usually with Felix)
