Legal Drinking Age ...

Post by felix'apprentice »

I've been thinkin bout this. I just dont understand why, we can send a 17/18 year old "kid" off to war...but that same "kid" has to be 21 to drink an alcoholic beverage. Doesn't make sense to me. Just curious to what everyone else thinks.

So...thoughts?

I agree. If you are old enough to vote and to die for this country, you should be able to have the right to go to a bar and have an alcohalic drink.

Generations have wondered about this. It makes no sense to anyone except idiot politicians.

Why is drinking & driving illegal ...yet you have to drive to the bar? ...and the back home...AFTER drinking. That makes sense. Politicians?
Id clear that mess up before i do anything about the drinking age.
Plus, who the hell wants a bunch of drunk irresponsible 18 yr olds drinking?

IMHO...

The legal drinking age (in public) should be 16. But if your parents approve at home, whenever THEY feel is fine is OK with me. My theorey is that people should learn how to drink responsibly at home and at an early age...

BUT - and this is the ONLY way I'd approve of the drinking age being lowered...

The driving age needs to be raised to 21...or at least 18.

You said it!
I think the bars are in it with the cab companies.
The only LEGAL way to get home from a bar is
to call a cab. I guess you could also have a DD
but who wants to do that. You're not even allowed
to walk home if you're drunk.
And on the 18 year old kids. Keep them the hell out
of the bars. These days most of them can't even cook
for themselves or do there own laundry. Make them
wait. 17-19 year old kids at bars would equal problems.
Especially around Altoona. Most adults around here are
dumber than shit. Could you just imagine how dumb
those adults' kids are? Who needs a bunch of kids
running around bars like 5 year olds in candy stores.

SOLUTION:
Find money, find homeless//drunk guy to buy you beer,
take beer home, drink it, thrown up, and go to bed.
That's how we used to do it. Those kids can suck it
up and wait another couple of years.

Funny... My wife and I were walking home from a bar last night with my brother and sister-in-law. They were being loud (of course) so I said stick to the alley. It didn't matter. We were five minutes from home and three squad cars with four officers stopped us. Someone had called saying there was a fight in the alley. Anyway, we didn't get any citations or no one was arrested, thanks Eric...but they made us call a cab. The only bad thing about it....my bro and his ol'lady live in Tyrone....$42 it cost them, bummer.

Anyway, the legal drinking age should be 18 as far as I'm concerned. I agree with the old enough to die for our country thing. If they can do that, they damn sure should be allowed to kill themselves drunk behind the wheel....fuck it.

I believe, new jersey? lowered their drinking age to 18 as a test at one time. The alcohol related accidents and deaths almost doubled.

The thing that I think is really screwed up is that in Oklahoma you can buy alcohol when you are 18; but can not drink it till you are 21 ..

How about this. As a "ceremonial rights", after you turn 18, they (the gov't) should have you drink three times. Depending on how you act and react while drunk, they could either allow you the right to drink when you want, or they should give you a few more years. Same thing happens at 21, for those forced to wait... You're forced intoxicated (by law), and they watch your behavior for a few hours. They postpone further if you still can't handle your booze. Happens every few years

My reason for this thought? Some people shouldn't be allowed to drink, PERIOD!!! I've seen situations where someone would NEVER be able to handle it!

I know this girl who gets drunk at the island all the time, starts crying, and calls me at anytime between 2:30 and 5:00 am. Or she calls my friends phone.

She fails her drinking test about three times per weekend.

ya, i see where you all are going with the young punks in bars. that definitely would not be a good idea. heck, i cant stand a lot of 17/18 year old punks sober lol.

but it still doesnt make sense to me how we can put the weight of protecting our country on their shoulders and they can't legally have a beer. i dont know.

driving age - i think maybe it should be highered. a lot of young people think they are immortal.

I just think if you have a military ID, you should be able to get a beer.

Personally, I think that legal drinking age should be 21. But I also think that you should not be able to go to any type of military conflict until you are also 21. Its ok to join the services and serve but not in battle. The maturity level of most just is not prepared for it.

Just my two cents.

That would be a great recruitment tactic! Plus it makes perfect sense.

But you know the politicians would require X hours of 'alcohol abuse' lectures during boot...

Logic would conclude:
Any change to the drinking age would result in a change of statistics (generally upwards) just due to increased number of people that are allowed to drink, combined with the 'novelty' factor of this new privlege among this new, somewhat inexperienced, crowd.

I'm a firm believer that acquiring a drivers license should be more like the Finnish governments. You'd almost solve the climate problem overnight since a good 80% of the population in the US would fail by my estimates.
