So, who is Prolific?

Post by tornandfrayed »

I was listening to Warren Zevon tonight and I thought "Wow, who are the prolific song writers of today?"

I could not really think of any...

I mean who, when talking about their cancer says "I might have made a tactical error in not seeing a doctor for 20 years."

Who, weeks prior to their death says something like "Enjoy every Sandwich."

Where are the prolific figures of today?

Thoughts....

I think that one has to be around for a certain amount of time before he or she can be called prolific, since it does take time to build a body of work.

The really good songwriters that I love aren't in the mainstream, and that's fine with me:

Izzy Stradlin- Guns and Roses haven't written a decent song since he left in 1991 and he has 8 or 9 solo albums of great 3 chord singalong rock songs.

Tim Armstrong- 100+ songs with Rancid, Operation Ivy, and The Transplants. He also released a solo album of reggae songs, and was nominated for a Grammy for writing most of an album of Pinks. He also wrote with Skye Sweetnam, the Lords Of Brooklyn, and many others I can't think of right now.

That's the definition of prolific if you ask me.

i agree...he's busy. i got his solo album when it came out...i didn't really like it. but, i still like some rancid...i don't care what anyone says about them. and obviously op ivy was legendary.

This.

I nominate Tom Waits, also Greg Graffin and Bret Gurewitz from Bad Religion.

The trojan man is definitely prophylactic today.

Wait... what?

I would have to say that anyone with a lot of albums fits the definition.

As to someone who really spoke to a generation, I don't think you'll have that today. With everyone wanting to be different and all...

The Partridge Family had a lot of albums, are they Prolific?

F. Scott Fitzgerald was prolific but is Steven King? Is it all about quantity or does what your saying matter?

BOC is still touring and they have quite a few albums but I would not call Buck Dharma a "prolific" writer.

Yes I am "Pro Life/Pro Choice" but that does not make me prolific..

The definition of Prolific does indeed have to do with pure volume but is that all it takes?

The Bee-Gee's hold the world record for most songs published....they've written stuff for just about everyone. I think they have credit for several thousand (!) songs!
