Contrary to published reports, legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) **has not** died after a six-month battle with stomach cancer.

After rumors started circulating via the Internet late Saturday that Dio had lost his cancer fight, BLABBERMOUTH.NET reached out to Ronnie's wife/manager Wendy Dio, who sent back the following message at approximately 11:35 p.m. PST on Saturday, May 15 / 2:35 a.m. EST on Sunday, May 16:

"I am at the hospital and Ronnie has NOT passed away!!!! He is not doing
good, but he is not dead.

"I will let you know if anything changes.

"Thank you for your concern."

Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.

I'm thankful I had the opportunity to watch Dio with Heaven and Hell from four rows back in the pit section at Star Lake two summers ago. That will now be an even more special memory.

RIP. Dio will be sadly missed. i loved everything he did. what an AWESOME showman. i caught a couple of his shows. heaven has one hell of a line up.

It seems as though he was saying that he didn't have a high preference to those specifics in music, but the respect that he had for Dio far overshadowed those. That's how I feel myself. I never listened to much Dio, but I realize how massively his grasp over the rock/metal community was

Ummmm I think thats what he did!!! I was never a huge Dio fan but I have the utmost respect for what he did for Metal music. I did like some songs but was never a huge fan. RIP RJD!

Ronnie James Dio (born Ronald James Padavona; July 10, 1942) has been a terrific singer and musician (bass guitar and trumpet early in his career) for over 50 years since the late 1950s with many successful bands. He will be sadly missed.
