Another bar...bad policy...trying to turn business away?

Post by JayBird »

So, last night a bunch of us went to Pony. After entering four of my friends asked, "How did you get in here with your hat on?"...ummm...I just paid and walked in. Yep, ten minutes later I was spotted by security and asked to remove my hat. Seriously...a dress code of NO HATS? This is Johnstown, PA...the land of struggling bars and these clowns want to incorporate a dress code. The staff thinks it's a stupid idea, but the brains of the operation feel this is a needed policy. What/who is this going to deter...gangs? Are their certain people being profiled by this policy. Didn't Pony have a "no baggy pants" and "no white t-shirts" policy before? Hmmm...seems to me this is a sneaky way to exclude some people from entering. These are only my observations, but come on, HATS? I had a Jagermeister hat on...a hat that advertises product you should be selling. Also...two band members were allowed to wear their hats...a policy is a policy...right? Oh well...maybe I'm looking into this more than I should.

Haha, looks like I won't be going there,I wear a hat 99% of my day, unless I'm sleeping, showering or on stage I have a hat on my head. I guess they think The Pony Lounge is some high society bar now? LOL,what a joke.

Lots of social clubs (American Legions, VFWs, etc.) have a no hat policy and that is very common practice at those places but The Pony Lounge? And, why were the band members permitted to wear hats and not the patrons. Many younger people in the Johnstown area have boycotted that place for other reasons and mainly because of trouble with fights.

Many of the people who come to see my band, included quite a few last night, wear ball caps. If the place we played last night had a no hat rule, half of the guys there would not have been spending money eating and drinking there. Maybe I should get hats with my band name on them to sell.

You should start a "Men without hats" tribute band and only play there.

Why are they doing this?
Are they trying to make it more formal? or is there some other reason like people smuggling weapons or drugs under their hat?

Probably the drugs/ weapons thing. They have had some problems with both in the recent past.

I've got to first say in general I like the Pony. They've been good to us & we always have a great time playin there. On the other hand I don't get this policy. If we were talkin some upscale club or some place with a strict dress code maybe I could understand. Like Scott, most of the time I wear a hat too. I can't see that wearing a hat inside the bar will lead to drug use or a place to conceal weapons or drugs. That can be easily checked at the door, just have patrons remove their hat & check that nothing is there. Besides I'd need one big ass hat to conceal my 12 gauge, even with the barrel hacked off. Yep I might be a redneck...

This makes me think of Ron White's skit about getting thrown out of a bar. I can see it if they wanted to try and keep the crime and such down. But what's not to say that since the gangs can't wear hats, they don't wear something else to identify themselves to each other?

Here is the Ron White skit I was talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdz_-06wGqc

Stupid ass policy.

If they have a prob with drugs or weapons, sounds like they need a real security staff to deter people from acting stupid. If people see the bouncers mean business, they are gonna think twice about acting like jacknuts.

I think its a job for one man, and one man only. The Super Bouncer Extreme Master Champion Man. Does he still come here?

The day they ban long hair from any place I go to is the day they never have to see my business, or a lot of others', again. No "no long hair" policies work for me, especially having a mane that's over half way down my back!
