Great choice Jim. "All The Young Dudes" by Mott the Hoople is a classic rock album. David Bowie helped write some songs and played sax on a few songs.

We used to hang out at a pizza shop when that song came out. If someone hit the metal ash tray three times, the entire room would sing/hum the opening of the tune. Wow, the good old days!

A few I like not previously mentioned:

How about the slick drum pattern including cowbell at the beginning of "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister. I always liked that.

The beginning of "Working For The Weekend" by Loverboy. You HAD to have a cowbell just for that.

Also "Our Love" by Krokus. There is an awesome cowbell going on during the lead solo.

And I'm suprised nobody said "Gimme Three Steps" (live version) because the cowbell in the beginning stages of that song is essential. I guess many musicians would like to forget about that one but it just won't go away!!!!
I've drank enough beer to float a battleship! Go ahead and Rock & Roll all night if you can but don't party every day!

Seems like 75% of the songs on "Appetite For Destruction" have cowbell. Particularly "Night Train" and "Mr Brownstone".

I didn't know AC/DC had any songs with cowbell? It must really be in the background.

Yeah, it's there but either slightly in the mix or used sparsely in a few songs. I double checked myself and it is there in the songs listed.

I'm not sure if it is a cowbell or a block (it is too light for me to tell); but, Couldn't see the light by The Climax Blues Band ..
